They improve the connection in the canter by doing transitions within the gait, moving from collection to more forward. Juan makes sure the horse is reactive to the leg of the rider, continuing the transitions within the canter. As they go to the flying changes, the horse drops behind the leg and they are requested to go more forward.
When schooling the flying change on the long diagonal, they add the shoulder in before the change and get better changes. This work has enabled the horse to be more through the back. The next exercise is the medium trot, and then Juan assists them with the piaffe. The shoulder in again is used.
