As Laura begins to work with this pair in the walk, she has the rider determine whether the horse is giving the rider the feel in the rein that they want. They post the trot to warm up, and make sure that they use the aids only as needed. They decide to do Category/Movement/Lateral|, and also do some changes. Laura asks that they march in the walk, and in preparation for the counter canter they do some walk canter transitions. Laura asks them for a leg yield in the counter canter with a change of bend but no flying change.

They work on the shoulder in at the trot, and going to the left Laura has them ride with counter flexion in a haunches out. When he lags behind the leg, they get him to move out and Laura explains how important it is to correct this within the exercise, rather than letting him straighten each time he’s asked to go forward. To prepare for the half pass, they first make sure he is thinking forward from the leg by doing walk to medium trot transitions. The half passes show more forwardness, and Laura has them get the position before they leave the rail. She asks that the medium trot feels like the rider is just letting him go. Laura has the rider get him a little “wild” and more responsive to the aids, and they move on to passage.
